Liz -

Can you believe it, we’ve completed 4 weeks, 50%, in all honesty I’m shocked at us both for sticking this out. But at the same time I couldn’t be more proud of Michael and what he’s achieving by doing this, I honestly thought he would cave (honesty is best policy) but he hasn’t.

A busy but enjoyable day today, woke up for the gym this morning - an easier lighter session today. Then we took Jack out to release some energy this seemed to work well and he was brilliant all afternoon, we barely heard a peep from him. I thought i’d pop into town and have a look at some new tops, unfortunately didn’t find much but got myself a couple in a smaller size so I’m pleased with that.

We discussed this morning that now Mike had met the goal set by the GP should we start phase 2 early, however after some deliberations we decided this process but be 8 weeks for a reason, so we have decided to stick with phase 1 for the complete 8 weeks, we may be busy this week and in company of others eating lovely food but we can do this. I know we can.

I got some time with Mike and we decided today to opt for something a bit different for dinner so we tried a salad. I must say it was a little dry before I added balsamic vinegar to this then it became ok. I’m not going to say it was my favourite but it was a welcome change. I’m getting a bit bored of our veg meals, just the same few meals on repeat. If anyone has any suggestions for vegetable only meals please send them our way. I’d be very grateful indeed.

I was off to work in the pub for the evening tonight, gonna be a busy one as football final thingy on. But that’s good as will stop me staring at the crisps and peanuts behind the bar yummy!

Mike -

So we are 50% of the way through now. 2 and a half stone gone in 4 weeks. I am so proud of myself and even prouder of Liz for doing this for me and with me. I guessed the results would be good but i couldn't have anticiapted them being this good. I was pleased as punch at weigh in time as i keep thinking my weight loss is going to slow down but it is steady now at 6-7 pounds per week. I have done the atkins diet before and didn't get that kind of weight loss. My one goal after this is done is to not go back to where i was.

Today has been really lovely, Jack had me out of bed early but i encouraged him back in to bed and he did go back to sleep albeit with me in bed with him. Liz went off to the gym and asked me to be showered and ready for when she got back as we were taking Jack out to a soft play centre to run off some steam. We have done all of our weigh ins together previously but i couldn't wait. Whilst we were out we talked about maybe going in to phase 2 as i had already exceeded the 15 kilo weight loss the GP had requested me to and the thought of steak and meat and those pistachios was so enticing. We had even agreed what to eat today to bring back in some other foods, but after reflecting we both said no come on lets stick this 8 weeks out properly and change our lives forever. So we are going to keep kicking on.

For dinner we had a very fresh salad which with balsamic vinegar came to life in my mouth. It was beautiful. Whilst we were discussing this afternoon about limited options for meals i went in search of some recipes and reading material and purchased the book "Life wthout diabetes" which was written by proffesor Roy Taylor who was the lead scientific researcher of the Newcastle Diet. I haven't got to the recipes yet as i am engrossed by the details of why type 2 diabetes becomes present, how it affects your body and why this diet is so effective at reversing the damage done to your body by diabetes. I wish i had read this book before we started.

To conclude today has been another very good day in my new and improved life.

Carpe Diem 4L

Phase 2 Update

I have to say that sticking to phase 2 is still presenting a real challenge. Still not quite finding the right balance. Water consumption...
