Mike

Weight - 21st 2lb

Mood - Excited at the start of the day

Food - Breakfast (Banana shake) Lunch (Pea and Spinach soup and strawberry shake) Dinner (Chocolate shake) Snacks (12 carrot sticks)

So to be clear. Carrot sticks suck. Before i have an army of carrot loving rioters (or rabbits) at my door that is my opinion. They are dry and taste like cardboard. I went in to this morning excited and full of vigour knowing that i was about to sort all of my health issues out in one fowl swoop and one carrot stick has changed my whole outlook. In the evening i saw them looking at me, my stomach rumbling whilst i waited for Liz to get back from working at the pub for my last shake. So i made a marinade for them and cooked them. Apart from the balsamic vinegar burning in the oven and them still having a bit too much of a crunch for me they weren’t bad. They still suck.

On the other hand i have to say my Mrs makes a very nice pea and spinach soup. I would share the credit but all i did was chop the onion and garlic so i won’t steal her thunder. She did a great job and recommend trying this recipe if you are on this diet.

4 pints of water seems like a lot to drink in one day but i was very quickly reminded of my history of 10 pint sessions in the pub in my youth which is likely one of the reasons i find myself here. So if you want to have a group of people read your nonsense i suggest getting down the pub and getting bladdered on a regular basis and ending up where i am now. Maybe not a wise idea in the long run. For tips on great drinking games message me privately as i don’t condone that kind of thing on a public platform

I like the banana and strawberry replacement shakes and they were surprisingly filling. We got Tesco slim shakes and they do actually taste of the flavour they say they will. You half expect some disgusting sludge to slowly fall in to your mouth like some gruesome cocktail from I’m a celebrity get me out of here but thankfully not.

The other positive note of the day is that neither me nor Liz have even thought about murdering each other or anyone else for that matter.

Weight - 16st 9lb

Mood - Excited but nervous of what is ahead

Food - Breakfast (Chocolate shake) Lunch (pea and spinach soup and banana shake) Dinner (Banana shake) Snacks (6 carrot sticks)

I woke up in a fairly good mood (despite the 6:30am wake up from Mike’s son, not what you want on Sat morning), I was determined we could do this and looking forward to our first day.

In preparation I had bought us 2ltr water bottles (if you see the photos yes I did buy mine to match my hair colour), and I had the food shopping all ordered ready for click and collect at 10am.

I got back from collecting the shopping and whilst he unpacked it (we share jobs in this household) I made our first shakes of the day. I was excited to try chocolate (who wouldn’t be?). However once trying this I have to say it isn’t as exciting as it sounded, maybe it would be better after dinner / when your really wanted something sweet to eat. But none the less I drank away and surprisingly felt full after, I did however have to have a sample of Mikes banana shake (boy was I jealous his was so much nicer than mine!). We then went on to make our first soup (Pea and Spinach), this was relatively easy to make and I must admit the smells coming from the saucepan were gooooood. Once cooked I blitzed this and shared into 2 portions (to become 4) and left to cool. Mikes son soon began to nag for his lunch so we thought why not try the soup, so we sat round the table, added some pepper and began our first soup test. I have to say I enjoyed this, it had a nice texture and a good full flavour to it, I soon devoured mine before Mike had barely started. I paired this with a banana shake (having tried his at breakfast I felt this would soon become my favourite). I’d recommend this soup to anyone, weather dieting or not.

We then carried on our day and took Jack (Mike’s son) to the park and I went off and did some shopping, I soon realised my energy levels were dragging and walking between shops I became thirsty (not helped by wearing a face mask!), I seem to be relying a lot on my water intake already, I miss it when it’s not there at hand. We get from the park and i felt a little peckish (probably the extra effort from a piggy back to get Jack back to the car, but needs must), so i decided to have some carrot sticks, 1 stick in and i felt like i was just chewing and chewing and chewing, damn these are hard to swallow, so dry & claggy, but i was determined to do it so down went 6 sticks (80g of veg).

Overall it was a good day us both and I’m proud we have stuck to it (i know it‘s only 1 day so far but if anyone knows us they will know how much of foodies we really are).

Still determined so here goes..... bring on day 2.

Phase 2 Update

I have to say that sticking to phase 2 is still presenting a real challenge. Still not quite finding the right balance. Water consumption...
